UK Local Council Twitter Followers

FYI – This list was not compiled to measure a twitter accounts success by its followers, it was merely created so it can automatically update the details for me since numbers can change daily. It was an easy option to keep up to date with the data. So hope it doesn’t come across as a competition! It is just source of information.
Thanks to the lovely Dominic Campbell from FutureGov Consultancy who let me in on a nice new widget called TwitterLeague at http://www1.twitterleague.com/, we can now view the UK Local Council Twitter follower updates automatically. Thanks Dom! 🙂

I was going to look into all accounts and investigate who are those people actually following local council Twitters but was wondering if you guys had any insight to who your followers are? Mind sharing your observations? Please leave your observations in the comment box.

Cheers Liz, fantastic work! Very excited/intrigued/surprised to see my own council (Brighton & Hove) on the list…
Would be great to know who’s interacting as well, i.e. who are posting @replies, or maybe following people back, etc.
Hi Graham, Glad to see you’ve found ur local council on the list. Investigating the followers in something I’ve def want to do. It just requires alot of man hours to do it and am waiting for time to free up so I can get to that. So please stay tuned and bear with me. It will come 🙂 Thanks for your comment.

We are new to the twitterverse, but trying hard to use it as a 2-way conversation tool.
Feedback is good after the first couple of weeks.

Followers are a mix of locals and colleagues from other councils or similar bodies.

Hi John,
Thanks for your link. I’ve just added it onto the list. Using twitter for 2-way conversation tool has always been a challenge. But my tip is possibly start using #croydon on twitter search to find what people in croydon are talking about in croydon. Start using them with your tweets too like what @camdentalking is doing.
I find it does help to create the conversation with the council’s twitter account. Also start using other hashtags on related issues in Croydon like events and places. It would come really useful when people are actively talking about a subject, say #snowcroydon or #croydonschools. Then you can engage with citizens on the issues that matter to them.
Hope this helps! 🙂
