I know people mostly know me for either talking and writing about social media or web usability. But over the past few years, I’ve been involved in so many different government related projects that I’ve managed to pick up a more bigger picture of government ICT.

Ever since we started documenting our journey here at Camden webteam, we have been inundated with emails asking about our web strategy and experience redesigning our site. One of the topics that always seem to come up is how we’ve conducted our user-led approach in designing the site.
There is nothing more frustrating than being in government right now if you are looking for change or motivation in your work. With almost no funding available, fewer colleagues to carry the burden, feeling of loss and uncertainty, we are facing an all time low.

I remember the days where I was just reading the Better Connected Report for my literature review and not really understanding the impact it has on local council web practitioners.

However this session at LocalGovCamp Lincoln seemed to bring in some interesting debates and honed into the real issues that UK local government is facing in terms of really embracing social media or making any sense for it in the public sector.

We are now living in a new age where the Internet is not just another source or another tool. Its become our way of life.
