Here’s a collection of interviews I did during my social reporting job at Socitm09. You can find more about the event at the official blog http://www.socitm09.net
As mentioned by Adrian Hancock (Socitm MD) in his blog post on the Socitm blog here. I have been assigned to tweet throughout the Socitm’s Annual Conference taking place on the 11th – 13th October in Edinburgh.
This session kicked off with the Chairman’s (@MichaelCross) welcome and introduction speech. I have to say, one of the joys of covering for events like this is getting to meet people like Michael who is an experienced professional journalist.
An interview with Josh Bernoff, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research. Over the past thirteen years, Mr. Bernoff has become one of America’s most frequently quoted research analysts.

Social Media Revolution Video. Get the facts!
I’ve finally got around to doing what I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time. I’m opening up all the research data I have to local councils to own and update as often as you like. I know I am unable to update this data on my own any longer, especially with the increased uptake of social media by UK Local Councils.
Looking at the possibilities of using social media for e-learning and collaborative working across UK local government.
So another week, there’s another event for LGEO Research to sink its teeth into! This time its the Socitm’s 2009 Conference: Re-inventing local public services – radical thinking, practical solutions.
I’ve been invited to talk at one of the parallel sessions to talk to around 50 or more Head of IT’s of local councils across the UK.
The event organizers have also arranged for sign language interpreters to be at the event so if anyone who is deaf or disabled who wanted to attend, please be rest assured that this facility is available just for you at the event.
There are different types of blog posts and there are different reasons for every post. So the method varies and might change from one to another. But here might be a few methods that I do use. Feel free to pick and mix!
It was an honour to be invited to attend “Recasting the Net”: A prestigious new series of live and online debates, curated by LSE think-tank POLIS and Channel 4’s 4iP team, designed to explore and discuss the next phase of the web in Birmingham Birmingham on 17th September to discuss the impact of online tools on how we are holding power to account.
This video feature Dave Briggs, Learning Pool’s Community Evangelist on the topic of social media and the challenges it faces in the UK local government. There is a big issue around local government blocking access to social networking/media sites at work. There is also a worry around the use of old technology like IE6 web browser still being used in government. Take a look at the video to learn more.
I interview Dave Briggs, a community evangelist. What is a community evangelist anyways?
Dave Briggs writes about digital engagement and community building for government. Dave is Learning Pool’s Community Evangelist as well as a freelance consultant.
Ok, so for once I’m not working but instead I’ll be partying the day and night away! If you wanna see me (hehe… as if!) or have fun with the @learningpool posse.
An interesting affair….
Almost everyday my inbox is filled with information or invitations to attend conferences and events on digital engagement, e-government, social media, local government and everything web 2.0. There’s some interesting conferences and events coming up on my calendar and I thought I’d share one with my readers.
Summary of my upcoming social media presentation. Any thoughts?
I’m going to be presenting this sometime in the near future. Thought I’d share my overview of the presentation with all my readers to get an insight into what you think. Any comments welcomed!
As all of you might already know, I was a CELEB for a day last week on board the HMS President. If you’re still a bit clueless, you can check out the details here in my earlier post last week.

There has been enough stress surrounding the swine flu pandemic since its outbreak and the impact has caused major panic and distress to governments and citizens everywhere.
You know I’m always thinking about you guys and how I can help make information more accessible to all. So I’ve come up with a wiki that will help all of us keep track of events and hashtags that we all can build upon together.
Wow this must be the equivalent of the Oscars or Grammy’s in our circle! How exciting… I bet alot of you are still unaware of this at the moment. So to catch you up to speed, let have a closer look into what its all about.
So how did things start off for Basildon District Council? It started off with attending lots of training, had lots of ideas, and did lots of research in the first 10 months.
Ever wondered what collaborative learning is? I’ve always had a few thoughts on what it could be and maybe took a logical guess or two but never quite understood why its so important to learning organizations and how they can be effective for learners.
Are you a twitter addict? Have you wondered why you get so wrapped up in twittering? Day and night then night and day?

I remember the days where I was just reading the Better Connected Report for my literature review and not really understanding the impact it has on local council web practitioners.
It was really interesting to attend yet another session about social media at a conference. However this session at LocalGovCamp Lincoln seemed to bring in some interesting debates and honed into the real issues that UK local government is facing in terms of really embracing social media or making any sense for it in the public sector.
As part of LGEO Research plans for expansion (spreading my wings!), I’ve been recently recruited as a part-time researcher with Reach Further.
So this was my first ‘gig’ at a conference. Have to say I was really shaking in my high heels (which were by the way, very uncomfortable! LOL) but glad to say I managed to pull through it with the support of a wonderful group of people who were very supportive and interactive throughout my session.
ScotWeb2 was certainly a different experience from any other unconference I’ve been to. Usually an unconference would consist of a big group but this event was quite an intimate one, which I believe worked towards their advantage.
The minute I arrived at the conference, there was a feeling of being surrounded by people who were intellectually in tuned with their passion, skills, knowledge and desire to make an indelible mark within their areas of expertise. However they weren’t just people who were just there because it was apart of their jobs, but there was a genuine sense of wanting to make things better and learn as well as share stories of each other experiences.
I met Steven at the Participation Camp (#PCamp09) while I was in NYC but recorded this interview when we met again at the Personal Democracy Forum Conference (#pdf09).

If there was one area I’m very aware and concerned about in health care, it would definitely be mental health care. I have had various of experiences dealing with mental health issues among students while I was a sub warden and I also have very good friends who suffer from with bipolar disorder and anxiety disorder.
Over the past few months, I’ve become really great friends with my Twitterati’s . Who knew I’d find really great friends on Twitter, people who could be there for you when things don’t go quite right… – I’ve met most of the people on this list in real life.
We knew it was coming right? Someone was bound to propose on Twitter! Gosh I wish someone would propose to me on Twitter
